News / Carnival Destiny marks launch of Carnival’s next-generation Ace Class ships
Carnival Destiny is scheduled to debut in summer 2029, with the other two Ace Class ships following in 2031 and 2033

A steel-cutting ceremony for Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship (with a historic name), Carnival Destiny, came with news of two more vessels on the way, all part of the cruise line’s new Ace Class.
Carnival Destiny’s big moment took place in Monfalcone, Italy at the Fincantieri shipyard, with a 3D hologram offering a first look at the future of Carnival cruising.
Carnival Destiny is scheduled to debut in summer 2029, with the other two Ace Class ships following in 2031 and 2033.
The original Carnival Destiny was also built by Fincantieri, and hit the water in 1996. The original vessel ushered in a new era as the world’s largest cruise ship at the time, more than 100,000 tons. That ship was renamed Carnival Sunshine in 2013.
The new Carnival Destiny, at 230,000 tons, will introduce a new way of experiencing the ocean from the ship, becoming the most outward-facing megaship at sea, says Carnival.
Carnival Destiny will feature an unprecedented number of oceanview balcony cabins, a reimagined lanai deck and more than 4.5 acres of glass – including expansive, multi-storey glass walls – all of which will open-up sightlines across the vessel. Plus, more than 70% of Carnival Destiny’s venues and attractions will be new concepts for Carnival.
Carnival Destiny will sail to destinations in the Paradise Collection by Carnival, including the Caribbean, Bahamas and Mexico.
“Carnival Destiny builds on a legacy that changed cruising once before, reimagining what guests can experience at sea. With this ship, we’re elevating the guest experience again creating a ship that feels more expansive, while helping guests feel more connected and ultimately have more fun,” said Carnival’s President, Christine Duffy.
