News / Summer sun: BA CityFlyer launches 2 seasonal routes from Edinburgh
The regional carrier will boost its 2024 summer schedule
British Airways' regional subsidiary, BA CityFlyer, has introduced two seasonal routes from Edinburgh in the United Kingdom, according to a report by Travel Weekly. These new destinations are set to be included in the airline's summer schedule for 2024.
New destinations in Italy and Spain
Even though the winter season has just commenced, BA CityFlyer is already strategizing for its upcoming summer season schedule. Starting from May 25, 2024, the airline will offer twice-weekly flights from Edinburgh Airport (EDI) to San Sebastian (EAS) located in the Basque Autonomous Community, Spain.
This route will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays until July 30, 2024. According to British Airways, the approximate flying time between these two destinations is two and a half hours.
As per the airline's website, the carrier plans to use its Embraer ERJ 190 regional aircraft for this route. Presently, it possesses a fleet of 20 ERJ 190s, according to ch-aviation. These planes are configured to accommodate a total of 98 passengers in a two-class setup.
In addition to San Sebastian route, BA CityFlyer will offer once weekly service from Edinburgh to Olbia (OLB), a city on Italy's island of Sardinia. The carrier will operate this route on Saturdays until August 10, 2024. The estimated flight duration between these two destinations is three hours. Like San Sebastian, the carrier will utilize its Embraer ERJ 190s, which are equipped with two cabins: Club Europe (business class) and Euro Traveller (economy).
British Airways, the parent airline of BA CityFlyer, already includes Olbia on its schedule, but these flights operate from London Heathrow Airport (LHR). Meanwhile, San Sebastian is also part of BA CityFlyer's schedule, with this destination served from the primary hub at London City Airport (LCY).
Busy period for another British Airways subsidiary
It appears that the upcoming period is poised to be bustling, not only for BA CityFlyer but also for another subsidiary, BA EuroFlyer. During this winter, the airline's relatively new low-cost arm is scheduled to serve a network of 25 destinations from its base at London Gatwick Airport (LGW).
Certain well-liked destinations encompass cities such as Amsterdam (AMS) and Geneva (GVA), which are also within the route network of British Airways.
As of now, BA EuroFlyer has a total of 18 aircraft in its fleet, with an average age of 19.7 years, according to ch-aviation. The fleet comprises nine Airbus A320s and nine Airbus A321 aircraft. It is worth noting that BA EuroFlyer is BA's latest subsidiary, and it was launched in March 2022.
Based at LGW airport, BA EuroFlyer operates a short-haul network with flights featuring BA's full colors, titles, and flight numbers. Holding a Type A Operating License from the UK CAA, it is authorized to transport passengers, cargo, and mail on aircraft with 20 or more seats.
