AmaWaterways is adding a new ship to its Mekong fleet, with the 120-guest AmaMaya set to debut in January 2027 on cruises through Vietnam and Cambodia.

The 60-stateroom ship will sail the company’s seven-night ‘Charms of the Mekong’ and ‘Riches of the Mekong’ itineraries, offering guests opportunities to explore local communities, traditions and landscapes while enjoying elevated accommodations, locally inspired cuisine and onboard spaces designed for relaxation. 

“The Mekong offers such a special way to discover Vietnam and Cambodia, bringing guests into close contact with the people and traditions of the region,” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways. “With AmaMaya, we wanted to build on that connection by inviting guests onto a ship that is inspired by its surroundings and the rivers it sails. It is a beautiful setting that complements the journey and creates a sense of discovery from the moment guests step on board.”

AmaMaya carries the same number and type of accommodations as sistership AmaDara, while introducing a new design vision to the Mekong fleet. The interiors are centred around movement, reflecting both the experience of sailing the Mekong and the journey of discovery along the way.

Guests can choose between two dining venues: the Mekong Restaurant, serving cuisine with international and local influences, and The Chef’s Table, an intimate specialty restaurant offering a multi-course tasting menu. Menus will highlight Southeast Asian flavours and fresh ingredients, with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other dietary needs accommodated.

AmaMaya will also feature a fitness room, sun deck pool and three massage rooms, while a dedicated Wellness Host will lead fitness and mindfulness activities.

The seven-night itineraries include visits to traditional villages, local schools, silk-making and rattan workshops and vibrant markets. Guests can also explore Phnom Penh by tuk-tuk, visit the former royal capital of Oudong and take part in a traditional Buddhist blessing ceremony.

In Vietnam, experiences include a traditional trishaw ride through Tan Chau, visits to local craftsmen’s workshops and a sampan excursion through the Mekong Delta’s Tra Su Forest and Sanctuary.

Guests sailing Charms of the Mekong can add a three-night Bangkok stay, while Riches of the Mekong offers a choice of a three-night Bangkok or four-night Central Vietnam extension.
