Ricardo Villaseñor Llamas, president of turtle camp operator Grupos Ecologistas de Nayarit A.C., shared that the purpose of the camping event was not just to have fun but for you to learn everything related to the conservation and care of the sea turtle. This creature is a protected species according to Official Mexican Standard NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010.

“The El Naranjo camp is certified by Profepa and is self-sustainable; it provides for all the basic needs and can host tents for groups,” he said.

He added that activities include a chat on the sea turtle’s life cycle, a visit to an incubation hut, patrols along the beach, and, weather permitting, turtle releasing so you can experience sea turtle conservation on a whole other level.

The facilities at the El Naranjo Camp offer showers, bathrooms, shaded areas, and parking, so all you need to bring is your tent, sleeping bag, flashlight, bug repellent, and comfortable clothing.

How to get to El Naranjo Beach

Boca del Naranjo is six kilometers north of Rincón de Guayabitos, following the detour that leads to the town of La Lima de Abajo.
