News / Cozumel and Costa Maya record significant increase in cruise ships and passenger figures
This success is the result of coordinated efforts between the State Government, the private sector and international organizations with particular emphasis on close collaboration with the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association

Governor Mara Lezama announced that 2025 has been the best year in history for the state’s cruise sector. She says the state registered record numbers in both ship arrivals and cruise passengers.
This success is the result of coordinated efforts between the State Government, the private sector and international organizations with particular emphasis on close collaboration with the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA).
According to projections for this year, Quintana Roo will reach the arrival of more than 7.4 million cruise passengers, representing a growth of 3.6 percent compared to 2024. The numbers, she says, strengthen the state’s position as the main cruise destination in Mexico and one of the most important worldwide.
In the case of Costa Maya, more than 2,802,000 visitors arrived, representing a 9.1 percent increase compared to the previous year. The increase reflects the dynamism and diversification of tourism in the southern part of the state.
Meanwhile, Cozumel received more than 4,622,000 cruise passengers, with a 0.5 percent increase compared to 2024.
Regarding port operations, 1,874 cruise ships arrived in 2025, representing a 3.8 percent increase over the previous year. Cozumel account for 1,300 vessels, a 1.5 percent increase compared to 2024, while Costa Maya welcomed 574 cruise ships, a significant 9.3 percent increase.
This historic growth is bolstered by an unprecedented development in the cruise industry for both Quintana Roo and Mexico, which includes the implementation of a state tax that includes a contribution of $5 USD per cruise passenger.
That money is matched by the state government and directly allocated to improving tourism infrastructure, enhancing the quality of services, safety and overall experience for both visitors and local communities.
“This achievement is the result of a clear vision that promotes orderly, sustainable and socially responsible tourism development, focused on generating well-being and shared prosperity for the people of Quintana Roo,” said Governor Mara Lezama.
