News / Cozumel breaks cruise ship passenger arrival record in first quarter
Chacón Méndez says Cozumel is the most important cruise destination in the Americas

Mayor José Luis Chacón Méndez says Cozumel has broken a record for cruise ship arrivals in the first quarter of 2025. With the arrival of 1,502,727 visitors from this tourism segment, it is a figure that surpasses records for the first three months of recent years.
Chacón Méndez says Cozumel is the most important cruise destination in the Americas. He emphasized that these statistics reflect a trend that will lead the island to close the year with at least five million visitors embarked, marking a historic figure for the municipality.
“Last year, Cozumel welcomed 4,623,000 tourists. The goal is to reach 5 million. We will achieve this by working closely with the cruise companies, tourism entrepreneurs on the island, and internationally.
“During our participation in Seatrade Cruise Global 2025, we held important meetings with the cruise companies who expressed their complete confidence in us and assured us that Cozumel is a leading, high-quality destination with a vast array of natural beauty,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, the Quintana Roo Comprehensive Port Authority (Apiqroo) announced the cruise ship list for the week of April 14-20, during which an estimated 80,459 tourists are expected to arrive on 21 tourist vessels.

The same number of ships will dock on April 16, but with a slight increase in the number of tourists, estimated to reach 13,904. Thursday the 17th is expected to be the best day of the season, welcoming five cruise ships with 18,297 guests.
For Friday the 18th, the arrival list includes three ships with 16,246 guests, while the week’s closing date is Saturday the 19th with two ocean liners with a capacity of 6,136 guests.
Sunday also saw a surge in tourist activity with the arrival of three floating islands and 6,111 foreigners. One of these vessels docked at the Punta Langosta pier, just 450 meters from the island’s tourist center, bringing life to the city’s main square and Cozumel’s boardwalk, Cozumel City Hall reported in a statement.
