This federal initiative underscores the government’s commitment to improving national air infrastructure

The Ministry of Communications and Transportation says the federal government will inject 134 billion pesos into 62 of the country’s airports. The money injection into the modernization of the airports will include Cancun International.

Airports such as AICM in Mexico City, Puerto Escondido, Tepic, Guadalajara, Tijuana, Monterrey and Cancun, among others, will see improvements.

The Mexican government, through the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), announces that it will invest, in coordination with the private sector, 134 billion pesos in airport infrastructure at 62 airports across the country during the 2025-2030 period.

This historic amount will boost connectivity and generate more than 200,000 jobs in airport modernization and expansion projects.

This investment strategy responds to a projected 4 percent annual growth in passenger numbers, which will represent an increase of 32 million additional travelers in the country by the end of 2030.

Public investment will total 22.749 billion pesos during President Sheinbaum’s six-year term, of which 8.491 billion will be spent during 2025. The funds are comprised of the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) and the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA).

Meanwhile, Aeropuertos del Sureste (ASUR), Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), and Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA) will jointly invest 102.587 billion pesos during the six-year term and 20.936 billion pesos this year.

Finally, the mixed investment will amount to 7.179 billion pesos during the six-year term and 4.301 billion pesos in 2025. It is being managed by Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA) and the Mexican Tourist Airport Group (GATM).

During 2025, an 8 percent increase in the number of passengers transported has already been recorded. Authorities did not provide specifics on how much will be allocated to Cancun International.
