News / British Airways has up to 55 daily US & Canada flights
BA plans up to 55 daily departures to the US/Canada from London Heathrow and London Gatwick this summer

For obvious reasons, British Airways has more US/Canada flights than any other European carrier. When North American operators are included, it ranks fourth, behind United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines. BA plans up to 55 daily departures to the US/Canada from London Heathrow and London Gatwick this summer. Despite the apparent slowdown in demand, this frequency was last seen in September 2019, when it still flew the Boeing 747-400.
Using Cirium Diio data to examine every planned service shows that BA's 55 takeoffs will only occur on eight Saturdays during the absolute peak summer: July 12, 19, 26, and August 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30. This is despite the temporary cessation of Dallas/Fort Worth flights, which led transatlantic joint venture partner American to increase its offering to five daily. The US/Canada will account for more than one in two (54%) of BA's long-haul operations in those two months.
BA Has 31 US & Canada Routes During The Summer
The carrier's 31-strong network comprises 26 Heathrow routes and five Gatwick routes. Note that Dallas flights, which last operated on March 29, will return on October 26. As such, it is not included in the following table. As always, the table's contents will be different at other times. Despite working closely with American, including in coordinating schedules, only BA's offering is included here.
Of course, BA's primary equipment will be the 777-200ER. Some 38% of departures will be on it. Layouts include its so-called Gatwick configuration, which has up to 336 seats because of far more economy and far fewer business seats. They are deployed in more leisure and lower-yielding markets. BA's 777-200ER use has risen from an average of 18 daily takeoffs in July 2024 to 20 a year later due to more activity from Heathrow.

How BA's US & Canada Flights Have Changed
Using Cirium Diio to compare BA's July 2025 network with July 2024 shows various changes other than the Dallas. Austin flights have grown from daily to 13 weekly, New York JFK is now exclusively eight daily from Heathrow (up from seven to eight), and Washington Dulles has increased from double to triple daily.
Unlike last July, London-Vancouver will have three daily BA departures (up from two). This is because Heathrow flights have risen to twice daily. Houston has grown from eight weekly last year to double daily (but frequencies fall to 11 weekly in August). Pittsburgh will see BA daily, up from six weekly.
San Diego Flights Have Fallen From Double Daily
For many years, BA served the Southern Californian city daily. For the first time, it changed to twice daily each day last summer. According to the US Department of Transportation, it carried 74,200 round-trip passengers in Q3 2024 (July-September) and filled 86% of seats. Compared to July 2019, traffic rose by 62%, and the load factor remained the same.
Heathrow to San Diego flights have fallen to 13 weekly (an admittedly minimal change year-on-year). BA was more or less happy with San Diego's performance. However, the slight reduction in services (and therefore fewer seats for sale) will further help pricing, yields, and loads. It'll be interesting to see how it changes in 2026.
