So far this year, more than 3.6 million cruise ship passengers have docked in Mexico. The Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués, reported that from January to July, just over 3.6 million cruise ship passengers have visited the various ports of Mexico.

He said those 3.6 million passengers have arrived on the 1,517 cruise ships that have moored in the ports of Cozumel, Mahahual, Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán.

He also said that land excursions by cruise ship passengers was up 18.2 percent over the same period in 2021, which translates into more tourist spending. This year, he says the average cruise ship passenger is spending $75 USD while visiting ports, up from $63.50 USD last year.

Of the ships that have arrived from January to July, 177 were in Ensenada, Baja California where 347,615 passengers were counted. In Cabo San Lucas, Baja California, 124 vessels arrived with a total of 254,832 passengers.

In Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, 97 cruise ships and 215,102 passengers were counted already this year, while in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, 78 ships have docked with 190,143 cruise passengers.

For Quintana Roo, Cozumel has recorded 645 cruise ship arrivals and more than 1.5 million passengers. In Mahahual, 296 ships have docked with 670,208 passengers.

On September 21, Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas will be docking at Mahahual before heading over to Isla Cozumel on the 22nd. The unscheduled visits were part of an itinerary change after tropical storm Fiona, which has since evolved into a Category 3 hurricane, forced the company to change its route.
