Mexican Caribbean will host around 3.5 million tourists during the next few months

More than 3.5 million people are expected in the state for the 2022 summer holiday season. Bernardo Cueto Riestra, the State Secretary of Tourism, said that using reservation figures, the numbers are a 13 percent increase over the same summer vacation period of 2019.

He says the Mexican Caribbean will host around 3.5 million tourists during the next few months, while adding that the state has already hosted more than six million visitors this year.

Cueto Riestra said that each week, Quintana Roo receives between 300,000 and 350,000 visitors which has provided a steady flow of around 41,000 people a day. He said that of those, 60 percent are international, a majority of which are Americans.

He also pointed out that currently, the state has air connections with nearly 120 cities globally since the inauguration of new national and international routes.

The director of the Quintana Roo Tourism Promotion Council (CPTQ), Darío Flota Ocampo, also commented on the state’s occupancy rates for the summer holiday season. He said that into the first two weeks of August, many hotels have an 80 percent reservation rate, which will gradually decrease.

However, forecasts for the rest of the year are encouraging. He said that for the so-called low season of September, October and November, with the recovery of the convention and congress market, as well as incentives and promotions, occupancy will be between 70 and 80 percent, which is very good.

For the months of November and December, promotional campaigns are already running for end-of-year promotions.
