News / Loganair celebrates major milestone at Orkney airport with gift of free flights
The milestone highlights the airline’s long-standing commitment to the Islands, providing essential air travel services to the mainland to support local communities and regional economic growth

Loganair has celebrated a major milestone at Kirkwall Airport in Orkney, having flown 800,000 passengers since launching services from the island airport.
The milestone highlights the airline’s long-standing commitment to the Islands, providing essential air travel services to the mainland to support local communities and regional economic growth. Additionally, Loganair operates the vital Inter-Island services, connecting six of the islands through their airports – including Westray to Papa Westray, renowned as the world’s shortest commercial plane journey.
To mark the occasion, Orkney locals Angus and Irene Thompson, both 69, were surprised with complimentary flight vouchers ahead of their flight to Edinburgh, a route they regularly use to visit family and friends in Scotland’s capital on special occasions, including Christmas and birthdays.
Customers flying with Loganair to and from Kirkwall benefit from a generous 21kg baggage allowance as standard, and convenient connections to the wider UK through the airline’s growing network and partner carriers.
Passengers who book direct with Loganair through their website can also collect Avios on their journey as part of the airline’s partnership with the global travel rewards programme through Loganair Loyalty.
Earlier this year, Loganair was named the UK’s second-best short-haul airline in Which?’s annual customer satisfaction survey, scoring five stars for customer service.
Additionally, the airline was named the most punctual for UK arrivals and departures in Q2 2025 by the UK Civil Aviation Authority, with 86% of its flights arriving and departing on time.
