ABTA works to improve health and safety standards for the benefit of travellers, hospitality staff and local communities

With the summer holiday season well underway, recent media reports bring sharply into focus the importance of helping people to have not just fun, but safe, holidays.
Customers' expectations are that all accommodation and associated services, regardless of their destination, should be safe.
For ABTA’s part, they work with members, destinations and tourism service providers overseas to improve health and safety standards for the benefit of the traveller, tourism accommodation staff and local people. To support consumers, they also have a wealth of advice and guidance in the form of toolkits which members can share with your customers. This includes swim, heat and balcony safety information, advice for young travellers, moped and quad bike use and more. There are also leaflets on safe and healthy holidays, which can be printed or embedded into your customer literature and apps. Information is also publicly available on the website and regularly shared across the own and partner social media channels, as well as in media campaigns.
ABTA’s work in Health & Safety is a priority activity in the work with members and they provide materials including training videos, details of events and updated guidance on these topics in the member zone of the website . This is in addition to the publication of ABTA’s Accommodation Health and Safety Technical Guide – known as the ‘blue book’, as well as other publications such as ‘Demystifying destination health and safety’ which can support members as part of your H&S management systems. The publications are free for members, and they can be requested by emailing destinations@abta.co.uk.
Working together, they can provide people with the knowledge to help make their experiences memorable for all the right reasons.
