Tourism is characterised by strong consumer regulation

This week ABTA was pleased to host members, partners and colleagues from the wider industry at ABTA’s Travel Regulations conference.
One of the huge benefits of booking organised travel is the protection that come with these trips, as tourism is characterised by strong consumer regulation. It’s not just the specific travel regulations that members need to abide by, there are wider business requirements and obligations too. An important part of the service to members is keeping you abreast of the latest regulatory developments.
On the mind of all travel experts are the new powers of the CMA under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act (DMCCA).
Speaking at the Travel Regulations conference this week, the CMA talked about its new guidance and enforcement action on pricing practices - which has just launched and was in the news this week - and how it affects the travel industry.
ABTA has been in discussion with the CMA regarding pricing practices in the industry, and will continue these conversations following the release of the guidance. ABTA will feed back to members in due course. No doubt this topic will feature in the upcoming training ‘Consumer Law in the Marketing and Selling of Holidays.’
It’s not just the events where members can learn about developments; ABTA also publish the latest legal insights in the biannual Travel Law Today publication, with the most recent edition published this week. It includes expert commentary on drip pricing and the DMCCA.
There is also a host of legal guidance and template documents available for you to use in the Member Zone; these are reviewed and updated regularly to include any recent developments.
And a reminder – if you are ever in doubt over a regulatory query, ABTA’s legal experts are here to help.
